AFCA-CIAL’s role at the French and European levels

AFCA-CIAL’s role is to ensure the collective defence of companies in the supplementary feed and specialised nutrition sector as well as the sector of animal feed additives and functional ingredients, at the national and European levels.

To work on these priority challenges – Feed safety, Nutrition-Health, Sustainability – AFCA-CIAL builds on the positions of its Board of Directors. It implements them through its working groups, in collaboration with the other animal nutrition associations at the French and European levels, and proposes recommendations and professional positions. These positions are defended and argued with the authorities and political bodies.

AFCA-CIAL, the reference contact for the public authorities

The association is at the interface between companies in the feed supplement, additives and functional ingredients sector and the competent administrative authorities.
As regards the businesses of its members, AFCA-CIAL is the reference contact for supervisory authorities such as the French Ministry of the Economy (DGCCRF – General Directorate for Fair Trading, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control…), Agriculture (DGAl – General Food Directorate…) and other French ministries (DLF – Directorate for Tax Legislation, DGE – General Directorate for Companies…) and also European authorities via european associations. AFCA-CIAL maintains close relations with various national organisations such as the National Agency for the Safety of Food, the Environment and Labour (ANSES), FranceAgriMer (National establishment for products from agriculture and the sea), AFNOR (French Standardisation Association), INRA (National Institute for Agricultural Research)…
AFCA-CIAL performs a specific regulatory watch to enable its members, regardless of size, to comply with constantly changing French and European legislation.

AFCA-CIAL in close collaboration with professional organisations at the French and European levels

AFCA-CIAL maintains close relations with the other structures in the animal feed sector, Coopération Agricole Nutrition Animale and SNIA (National Union of the Animal Compound Feed Industry) for compound feed, FACCO (Federation of pet food manufacturers) for pet food.
At the European level, AFCA-CIAL is:
- Member of the Eurofac association, which is a member of the European Compound Feed Manufacturers’ Federation, the European representative for Compound Feed Manufacturers. AFCA-CIAL represents France on the European Compound Feed Manufacturers’ Federation’s special “premixtures & mineral feed” committee.
- National platform for the European Association of Speciality Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures in animal nutrition (FEFANA) which represents the sector of additives, functional ingredients and their mixtures.
- Member of the European Manufacturers of Feed Minerals Association (EMFEMA) representing manufacturers of minerals, in the “users” group.

AFCA-CIAL is involved in topics that are important for the industry

AFCA-CIAL is a member of:

OQUALIM which coordinates actions aimed at promoting the quality and security of products intended for animal nutrition.
Duralim, the French collaborative platform for the sustainable nutrition of livestock.
TECALIMAN as part of actions to promote improvements to the technological processes involved in the manufacturing of animal feed products.
Scientific Committee for Animal Nutrition (CSNA) which conducts research and development programmes and gives scientific opinions on questions connected with the animal nutrition industry.
